Veterinary Laser Surgeries Tend To Cause Less Distress

By Tanisha Berg

You will want to spare your pet as much discomfort as possible. Veterinary laser treatment is a much more efficient and less evasive way of doing an operation. With this there will be very little blood loss and the pain will not be so intense. The beam can burn and cut as well as destroy any tissue that is foreign inside a body.

Using laser lights to close wounds is being used to close human wounds. Hopefully it will progress into the animal procedures as well. This is done by using a green light from a KTP laser onto each side of the opening. It will need to first be coated with a special dye which has been approved by the FDA. Then both the light and dye react a bond is created, connecting the collagen.

When using lasers it makes the procedure much simpler and because it seals off all blood cells the area is much clearer which makes it easier for the surgeon to see what he is doing. The light or beam can be made smaller or larger depending on what needs to be seen. It can then be easier to remove both large and small tissue quickly.

Getting a bachelors degree is the next step. UPenn in Pennsylvania or Cornell in New York will be excellent choices. As not all offer the same courses you will need to do well in what they do offer. Unfortunately there are not many of these schools as there are medical, so your application will need to be that much better than the others applying . During your weekends and holidays find volunteer work.

Get letters of recommendation and take the GRE, or Graduate Record Exam. This is just for the school to see if you are willing to go that extra mile and are serious about this kind of work. To become qualified it will take about four years, this will then give you your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Each year will be focused on different subjects and will include working in research projects.

As each state differs you will need to take their test as well. It is recommended that you try interning for about a year before finding something permanent. Everyone will then need to take an oath promising to only use your education for the good of the animal. One will need to have the ability to be compassionate to both the animals and the owners. Your ability to explain in layman's terms what is wrong with their pet is very important.

There are two levels of training to specialize in. The first is a four year course for technologists and a 2 year for a technician. Both will need to be passed to be registered and licensed. A postsecondary program will also need to be completed.

One will need compassion and love animals to excel in this kind of work and it is very satisfying knowing that you will be able to help them. There are two types of veterinary lasers either the soft or hard. For soft it is used mainly for eyes and hard is for bones and teeth.
